About Jan Fenell

Jan Fennell has pioneered a revolutionary approach to dog training methods called 'Amichien Bonding'. Jan's method of 'Amichien Bonding' is without the use of force or gadgets. It is simply communicating to your dog in it's own language.

Jan Fennell wasn't satisfied with traditional training methods as she always felt that it was enforcing the human ways onto the dog. In 1989 Jan went to see Monty Roberts, The Man Who Listens to Horses and she started to see things differently. Seeing Monty inviting the horses to want to work with him and in their own language really made sense to Jan. Could the same be done for dogs?

Jan started to study the Wolf pack and discovered that they live by a very strict hierarchy, they have a alpha pair who are responsible for the packs survival and make all the decisions for the pack i.e when to hunt, what is perceived to be danger etc. The problem for the domestic dog arises if they believe themselves to be alpha. The dog is living in a world that it can't possible understand. It is up to the human to convince the dog that they are leader and relieve the stress and responsibility from the dog.

Does your dog jump at you?

If your dog jumps excessively then just ignore him and push him away (gently, but like you mean it), make no eye contact and don't speak. Repeat till he stops. He'll soon learn that this type of behaviour doesn't get him any reward.
